When I say the Indiana Peony Festival holds a special place in my heart, I mean it. I’ve been lucky enough to work with the festival team for years, designing everything from their logo and event branding to social graphics and merch illustrations.
And when festival weekend rolls around? You can usually find me under my own little booth canopy, selling my peony-inspired prints and soaking up the best of spring in Indiana.
Celebrating Indiana’s State Flower In Style
The Indiana Peony Festival blooms to life every May, always the weekend before Memorial Day, and it’s become a local tradition that feels like the unofficial start of summer.
A little history for my fellow flower nerds: back in 1957, former State Rep. Lawrence D. Baker and his wife lobbied to make the peony Indiana’s official state flower. The Zinnia held the title at the time, but was considered a “cemetery flower” and as commercial peony growers themselves, the Bakers had other ideas!
Fast forward to today, and the Indiana Peony Festival is a full 501(c)(3) nonprofit that brings thousands of visitors to Noblesville each year to shop locally, connect with makers, and celebrate this iconic bloom.
As a Noblesville-based small business myself, I love how this event uplifts other entrepreneurs, artists, and local shops.
It’s been such an honor to partner with the festival to create their event branding, illustration, and marketing materials and to have a booth where I get to meet the community face-to-face every spring.

From Designer To Vendor: Simply Sophie Designs At The Festival
Every festival season, I trade my laptop for a vendor badge and join the lineup of small businesses at the Indiana Peony Festival.
It’s the perfect blend of work and play; I get to see all the branding pieces I created in action while chatting with visitors, fellow entrepreneurs, and local friends.
Plus, it gives me the chance to showcase my own line of peony-themed artwork (and yes, every year I’m surprised how quickly I sell out of something before the weekend’s over!).
While I’ve enjoyed being a vendor, 2026 I’ll be taking a break and attending just as a visitor!

Fun fact: my festival merch journey actually started with me selling my own peony prints and it’s now grown into an amazing collaboration with Wild Kard Vintage!
Every year I’m blown away by Hoosier’s love of all things Peony, which makes creating merch like mugs, doggy bandanas, stickers, buttons, card & art prints all the more fun.
In true collaboration style, I handle the design side, think dreamy peony illustrations and event logos, and Wild Kard handles all the screen printing and fulfillment magic.
It’s truly so much fun, and every year the designs just keep getting better.
